If we're honest we tried to make this our first multi-cache attempt some weeks ago - however, we picked the worst ever day to go to the common - the Southampton 10K Cancer Research Race. Meant the place was absolutely swarming with Muggles so we abandoned it until we could pick a quieter day.
Southampton Common is a well used spot and can get quite busy so we picked today because it was blinking freezing and quite frankly dangerous icy - not so many muggles now!
So off we went today to attempt to the multi-cache puzzle!
We parked the car up by the Cowherds pub - think mum was being a bit over hopeful thinking we'd have a drinkie outside afterwards!
The first clue was the entrance by Holly Lodge - very festive! - we plugged in our new found co-ordinates and off we slippy slided towards Ornamental Lake:
If only I could just reach the sticks.. |
Mum and Dad kept shouting at me when I dipped my paws on the ice of the lake.....something about how two leggers die going in to rescue their dogs in icy lakes.....only wanted the sticks:
So anyway, all the puzzle clues took us around all the lakes, from the Ornamental Lake pictured here we then went to the Boating Lake (which it clearly says on the pavement no dogs allows - cheeky!). That was drained for the winter though so no ice there. Then from there it was off to Cemetery Lake and then finally after five clues back towards our starting point.
After a bit of a search and double checking our co-ordinates (we're not very good at counting or maths!) we did find the cache:
The red bag would have been a bit obvious , if it wasn't placed inside a camouflaged one. |
Dad opens the cache |
We popped the Wise Ol Owl in from our find the other week. Not a massive move for him but it keeps him on the go.
We were going to have a go at this traditional cache on the way back to the car:
But the location was a bit snowed over and I was starting to shiver so we gave up to go home and snuggle up. Ok so it was our first ever not found but is was just too snowy and we'll go back when it thaws out!
